The Specific Uses of Minerals or Elements in the Body – Gold [Au]

August 2009: Volume 4 Number 8

Gold and gold compounds, at the present time, are occasionally employed in the treatment of lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. Intravenous gold compounds are used since absorption from the gastrointestinal tract is minimal. Gold compounds are toxic and dimercaprol is an effective antidote. A radioactive isotope of gold is used in the treatment of certain malignancies such as prostate, cervix, uterine, bladder; and peritoneal and pleural effusions associated with malignant tumors.

Gold has been reported to be useful in relieving glandular and emotional problems. Gold is also used to repair DNA damage and gland problems, which slows the aging process. Gold also has been used for incurable cancers and claimed to be helpful in calming hyperactive children, improving their IQs and broadening their learning abilities. Some people have used gold to enhance the activity of silver. There have been antidotal statements, but double blind studies have not been done.

We will discuss other trace minerals that have not been studied in our next lecture as a continuation of the specific uses of trace minerals or element in our bodies.
